In a time when a Mercedes CLK is available on EMI’s, and Vuitton is arm candy on the arm of many Indian farmers, are we really that scandalized and irked that Tata Motors has bought out The Jag and Range Rover? It’s like saying Anil Ambani grew up in a chawl (city settlements which grew from squatters), how can he be allowed to the the 5th richest man in the world!! Come on...the class lines are all blurred, the definition has changed and we can decide where we want to be. It’s in to dirty to your hands and it’s very this season to be in the middle of all the action.
I am taking no little pride in the fact, and we just have to remind ourselves that Bus and motor manufactures are now capable of anything, its like the Nissan Ad, Naturally Capable! Are we forgetting that Volvo makes buses and Mercedes Benz makes trucks. Chew on that.
Luxury is now Middle class and the Middle class can have anything that the so-to speak rich are buying, the difference maybe only of quantity.
In the west the class disparity is less evident, there are farmers with dirty boots going off on either hunting jousts or rounding up cattle in the Rovers and the Jag could have a just as unassuming protocol where it isn’t necessary if you are elite or just able to afford stuff.
The thinking here is that not too many people had it easy, people have made their way up, and we must just celebrate the fact. What can be done instead of ranting and raving about my class is better than your class, more should absolutely be done for creating awareness for Luxury. Luxury cannot be measured in terms to money, (well not completely). There is a availability of a product, there are people who can buy it, and when the purchase is made more for the Label attached to the product than say the purpose of this product, it maybe lessens the enjoyment of the item completely.
I have to say that all things said and done, if you are buying a Jag or a Rover and are not completely involved with the meaning and responsibility of owning it, what is the fun?
India is still evolving in terms of appreciating Luxe. I mean sure, you’re not exactly going to answer a 10 question timed test when you walk into say a Vuitton store to prove your worthiness as a possessor, but knowing what a Vuitton stands for , for instance, will only help and add to your enjoyment of owning something delightfully decadent.
I truly believe that there is a warp when it comes to all things bright and beautiful. I believe this warp exists only because there is more to covet and less ease of access, which is now changing and hence the warp lines are also getting skewered.
Here is saying Cheers to being India Rich and Shining, and Cheers to the Benz for all, the Staple Indian Cycle RichShaw.(Eventually).
